If anyone’s making waves in fashion, it’s Derron Cherry with his avant-garde brand ‘Beeombi.’ This St. Louis native has climbed to the top with his innovative designs, dressing celebrities like Teyana Taylor, Nia Long, Oprah, and Porsha Williams.

Cherry comes from a family of seamstresses; his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother all knew how to sew. He started using a sewing machine at just 5 years old and learned a lot by watching his mom work. By middle school, he was repurposing clothes, and in high school, he was designing full gowns. His nickname, ‘Beeōmbi,’ comes from his childhood. He couldn’t pronounce ‘bologna’ correctly and called it ‘Beeōmbi,’ a name that stuck and eventually became his brand.

Beeōmbi has made a significant mark, especially in film and TV. After attending the Chicago International Academy of Design and Technology, he went back to St. Louis and got a big break as a tailor on the set of ‘Selma,’ working with Ruth E. Carter and Ava Duvernay. This opportunity led him to a career in costume design, and he has been working with Tyler Perry for the past decade, creating costumes for the iconic ‘Madea’ and other productions like ‘Sistahs’ and ‘Perimeter’ on BET.

Besides his work in film, Beeōmbi is expanding his clothing line, featured in Neiman Marcus earlier this year. His designs, comparable to Balmain and Alexander McQueen, are noted for their attention to detail and often combine feminine and androgynous elements.

At the Bomb Fashion Show, he will showcase his latest collection, “Welcome to the Jungle,” inspired by his trip to Africa. This collection includes pieces made from leather, silk, and wool, featuring both ready-to-wear and haute couture items.

Beeōmbi is thrilled to be part of New York Fashion Week and collaborating with Fashion Bomb Daily, which he has admired for years. Looking ahead, he has big plans for his brand, including a storefront coming soon to a city near you. Keep an eye out!
