Francesco Carrozzini, an Italian-born photographer, music video director, and filmmaker, always dreamed of moving to Los Angeles and making it his home. In 2017, he found the perfect place when he bought a Hollywood Regency property with a rich design history. The house, originally built and later remodeled by renowned architect John Elgin Woolf, seemed ideal for someone like Carrozzini, who hails from a family deeply embedded in the fashion world. His late mother, Franca Sozzani, was a powerful influence in fashion, especially during her tenure at Vogue Italia, and Carrozzini even made a cherished documentary about her life and career.
Carrozzini mentioned to Architectural Digest that he bought the home from hotelier Sean MacPherson before marrying his partner, producer Bee Shaffer. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Oliver, in October. Carrozzini has since taken great care in restoring the home’s parquet floors and white-painted wooden ceilings. He has also added new features to the living room, such as library nooks and built-in bookcases.
Given their strong ties to the fashion and photography worlds, the couple’s home is adorned with original artworks by famous photographers like Mario Testino, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Robert Capa, Thomas Struth, and Man Ray, creating an airy and stylish atmosphere.
Carrozzini shared that he spent a month choosing the perfect shade of white for the project. His goal was not to make drastic changes but to preserve the architectural integrity of the house through careful restoration. He proudly notes that the home is now recognized as an L.A. landmark.
