Christian Siriano has come a long way since his Project Runway days, dressing the elite of Hollywood. Raised in Annapolis, Maryland, Siriano won the fourth season of Project Runway in 2007. After studying under Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen in London, he launched his collection in 2008. Celebrities like Zendaya, Oprah, Mary J. Blige, Lady Gaga, and Cardi B adore his designs. Siriano was awarded “Designer of the Year” at the 2016 AAFA American Image Awards and was included in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2018.
LaQuan Smith is the go-to designer for many “Hot Girls.” Based in Queens, Smith has created stunning pieces for celebrities like Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Lori Harvey, Taraji P. Henson, and the Kardashian clan. A CFDA member since 2021, he was nominated for the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards “Designer of the Year.” Known for his striking cutouts and glamorous designs, Smith’s creations are domestically manufactured in Long Island City, New York.
Olivier Rousteing has brought a fresh and modern approach as Balmain’s Creative Director since 2011. Born to a Somali mother and Ethiopian father, Rousteing was adopted at age one. He has infused French couture with intricate details, making Balmain a favorite among celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, and Nicki Minaj.
Kwame Adusei, with roots in Ghana, is revolutionizing fashion with his unique designs. After moving to Los Angeles, Adusei launched his collection in 2021, quickly gaining popularity. Celebrities like Chloe Bailey, Lori Harvey, Kylie Jenner, and Beyoncé have embraced his stunning pieces. Adusei’s designs are known for their provocative elegance and edge.
Charles Harbison relaunched his fashion label in 2023 with a collection inspired by Ellsworth Kelly, featuring bold colors and prints. Harbison, who focuses on sustainability using vintage textiles and eco-friendly fabrics, creates futuristic evening wear with impeccable ruching and draping.
Hanifa, a global luxury brand founded by Anifa Mvuemba, boasts fans like Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and Beyoncé. Originally from Kenya, Mvuemba launched her first runway show in Washington DC in 2021. Self-taught, she draws inspiration from her mother’s love of fashion. Mvuemba’s designs are known for their forward-thinking and tenacity.
Project Runway All-Stars winner Bishme Cromartie from Baltimore wowed with his intricate and bold designs. Despite personal tragedy, he channeled his strength into his creations, earning recognition for his modern, thought-provoking pieces. Celebrities like Michelle Williams, Coco Jones, and Chloe Bailey have donned his designs.
Gaurav Gupta, known for his avant-garde creations, has dressed Cardi B and Beyoncé in show-stopping couture. The Indian designer, who studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology Delhi, launched his couture house in 2004. His signature sculptural silhouettes and elaborate embellishments make him a triple threat in couture, menswear, and bridal wear.
