A Sneak Peek into Eva Chen’s Sophisticated Connecticut Country Home in Architectural Digest’s September Style Issue

With September just around the corner, Architectural Digest is releasing its much-awaited annual Style issue. This year features Instagram favorite Eva Chen, who gives the magazine a look inside the renovation of her new Connecticut country house.

Eva Chen, a city girl at heart, and her husband, Tom Bannister, who works as a creative director in the ad industry, have started enjoying quieter weekends since finding their ideal second home in the summer of 2020. Chen has shared the renovation process with her 1.7 million Instagram followers.

Chen, who manages fashion and shopping partnerships for Instagram, reached out to the design firm Hendricks Churchill via direct message. The firm, led by Heide Hendricks and Rafe Churchill, took on the task of updating the 2,800-square-foot home by removing walls, turning a garage into a bedroom, and updating windows.

The end result, as author Eva Chen describes, is “warm and elegant, without being too precious.” Hendricks and Churchill also assisted in furnishing the home, creating cozy play areas and nooks for her children, Ren and Tao. Chen has also recently welcomed a newborn named River.

The furniture was sourced from places like Plain English, ABC Carpet & Home, Apparatus, and various antiques from private collections, estate sales, Etsy, and 1stDibs.
