LaQuan Smith is making waves with his Spring/Summer 2024 collection, which he launched on Monday evening at Skylight at Essex Crossing in the Lower East Side. His show drew in a star-studded crowd, including Mary J. Blige, Baby Face, Saweetie, and Karreuche Tran. Smith is already a key player in both the hip-hop scene and black culture, designing for icons like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Vice President Kamala Harris. His latest collection is set to boost his popularity even further.
The runway was packed with eye-catching metallic outfits, signaling that shiny fabrics will be a major trend for Spring 2024. Backstage, Smith shared that he drew inspiration from Freddie Mercury and Barbarella, adding subtle sci-fi elements to his designs without being too obvious about it. His creativity and willingness to push boundaries were clearly on display.
The collection featured innovative pieces like mesh, see-through bodysuits paired with metallic cargo pants with zipper detailing, as well as strapless dresses with daringly high slits, revealing just enough of the side hip to be intriguingly provocative. High-neck crystal chain tops also made an appearance on both male and female models, pieces easily envisioned on fashion-forward celebrities like Lori Harvey and Kelly Rowland.
LaQuan Smith’s designs are for the chic and bold “It Girl” who isn’t afraid to showcase her body in a stunningly sexy and glamorous way.
