Oprah Winfrey Shines in Regal Purple Outfits by Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney & More for 'The Color Purple' Musical Film

Almost forty years after Oprah Winfrey’s memorable ad-libbed lines in the original “The Color Purple” film directed by Steven Spielberg, the iconic movie has been reinvented as a musical. Executive Producer Winfrey and Film Producer Scott Sanders have teamed up to bring this beloved story to the stage, set to debut on Christmas Day.

The all-star cast features Fantasia Barrino as Celie Johnson, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, and Danielle Brooks as Sofia. Each actress has been dazzling on the press tour, but Oprah Winfrey has truly captured everyone’s attention with her stunning purple outfits.

At the screening event for The Color Purple at the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, DC, Oprah was a vision in a grape-colored Stella McCartney three-piece suit. This suit, crafted from recycled lurex brocade and part of Stella’s Summer ’24 collection, showcased Oprah’s significant weight loss.

Another standout outfit was a velvet purple Lela Rose suit paired with a plum silk blouse and violet eyeshadow. Oprah also turned heads at the Academy Museum Gala 2023 in a custom purple sequined Dolce & Gabbana gown, honored with the Pillar Award. She continued to shine in sequins at the New York Empire State Building premiere ceremony, donning a purple ombre Oscar De La Renta coat over a lavender silk Adam Lippes draped top and flare trousers.

Oprah expressed her excitement, saying, “It is celebratory, it’s about hope, it’s about rejoicing, it’s about empowerment, it’s about joy and we are excited that the world gets to see it and experience it on Christmas Day.”

Tyler Perry, showing his support, sported a purple suit at the Los Angeles premiere. TV Host Sherri Shepherd joined the celebration in a grey crewneck ‘Oprah’ sweatshirt, purple plaid skirt, and a statement violet belt, while Oprah stuck to the theme in an orchid-colored Bottega Veneta turtleneck and leather high-low skirt.

Oprah’s dedication to wearing purple in honor of “The Color Purple” musical is impressive. She has mastered the art of wearing this color in a regal and sophisticated manner, truly embodying royalty in every appearance.
