With a strong team backing you, amazing things can happen, just like with the launch of ‘The New Stereotype (TNS): STORIES,’ which debuted on Sunday, Nov. 12th in New York City.
The creative minds behind the book, Marquelle Turner, Wendy Oduor, and Olushola Bashorun, teamed up during the pandemic to showcase over 50 Black men and women across 26 fashion editorials shot in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. This three-year project celebrates the rich, complex nature of Black identity through fashion, photography, and film.
Their effort has resulted in a high-end coffee table book that delights readers with its stunning and purposeful illustrations. Each section of the book, referred to as a CHAPTER, captures the essence of individual stories, illustrating how Black men and women can shine both on their own and together.
To kick off the book’s debut, the founders hosted a panel discussion moderated by Danielle Young. The panel included subjects like Celebrity Stylist, Harrison Crite, and Author, Rob Hill, whose images were featured in a gallery exhibition.
A diverse crowd of creatives attended the exhibition, eagerly taking in the striking visuals displayed against a concrete brick wall. Attendees hurried to buy their copies of TNS: STORIES before they sold out.
Marquelle Turner, the Project Director, exuded confidence in a custom light brown two-piece set, paired with a black Kufi hat and black Balenciaga flats. The Director of Photography, Olushola Bashorun, arrived with his wife in a sleek Prada outfit, while she dazzled in a silk maxi dress and gold sequined heels.
Fashion Bomb CEO, Claire Sulmers, came to support her friend Olushola. She admired his creative prowess and the detailed craftsmanship in each photo. Wendy Oduor, the Creative Director of TNS: STORIES, looked stunning in a STAUD maxi dress that complemented her skin tone. Her bold fashion choices, including multicolored beaded earrings and a vibrant red lip, added to her queen-like presence.
Oduor also interviewed Sulmers, who wore a stylish leather ensemble with a Fashion Bomb Daily shop Prince graphic tee and flared leather pants. Claire expressed her delight at attending the event, which celebrated the artistic talents of Oduor, Bashorun, and Turner.
The TNS: STORIES book premiere showcased a plethora of stylish attendees, each contributing to the event’s vibrant and celebratory atmosphere.
