Fashion’s biggest event, the MET Gala, has once again brought celebrities to New York for its annual fundraiser at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each year, we eagerly wait to see what our favorite stars will wear and are always amazed by how they interpret the event’s theme.
In previous years, themes have included “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” and “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” This year’s theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” which focuses on the sensory experience of clothing and their temporary nature. The dress code is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by a 1962 J.G. Ballard short story. This invite-only event has been co-chaired by Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, since 1995.
Last year’s theme honored the late Karl Lagerfeld, a major influence in the fashion world, and celebrities went all out with tweeds, pearls, and 3-D floral designs. Rihanna arrived fashionably late in Valentino with A$AP Rocky in Gucci, while Jeremy Pope made a statement with his Karl Balmain cape. The looks were avant-garde and diverse.
