One of the brands joining us for September Fashion Week in New York is Monaco Colombia, based in LA. The brand’s name comes from a mix of personal history: the owner, Danielle Oliver, shared that her parents fell in love in Monaco, and her father is Colombian and Nigerian. She combined these elements to create the brand.
Danielle’s passion for fashion started early on. As a child, her grandmother couldn’t always afford the clothes she wanted, so she would creatively put together her own outfits. In her twenties, Danielle got her first job in a garment factory, which inspired her to explore her own creativity through design.
With 25 years in the apparel industry, Danielle has worked with companies like True Religion, Seven Jeans, and BCBG in roles ranging from production to fabric buyer and design. She recalls a defining moment from middle school when a classmate noted her as the best dressed in the yearbook.
At The Bomb Fashion Show, you can expect Monaco Colombia to showcase their signature blend of baggy and classic styles. Danielle draws inspiration from Colombian and European cultures for her new collection, which aims to create a unique and dynamic aesthetic through innovative, stylish, and high-quality designs.
Monaco Colombia is excited to participate because FBD has empowered the African American community in fashion. Danielle praises Claire, who has transitioned from crashing fashion shows to sitting in the front row, making a significant impact on black designers.
