Founder and designer Anifa Mvuemba is making waves with her latest Fall/Winter 2024 ready-to-wear brand, Hanifa, and she’s paving the way for the future of fashion with her innovative designs. Her newest collection, titled “It Girl,” features a range of must-have items with vibrant colors, bold prints, and feminine silhouettes. Besides her ready-to-wear line, the Hanifa brand also includes stunning bridal wear and handbags.
Mvuemba launched her collection in 2012 and has since gained popularity among celebrities and fashion enthusiasts. She acknowledges the significant role “Fashion Bomb Daily” played in Hanifa’s early success by showcasing her brand to a broad audience, particularly black women, who are a major part of her customer base.
Drawing inspiration from New York City’s diverse and lively atmosphere, Anifa used animal prints and textures to reflect the city’s eclectic vibe in her collection. Although New York Fashion Week didn’t provide a show date, Anifa decided to host her own event off-calendar, focusing on celebrating herself as a black woman and a designer in a challenging industry.
Despite the barriers of diversity and inclusivity in the fashion world, Anifa has achieved her dreams. Her brand is admired by high-profile names like Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Cardi B. According to Yesmin Anthony, the COO of Hanifa, Anifa is not only a creative talent but also an extraordinary businesswoman.
Looking ahead, Anifa envisions owning a department store dedicated entirely to her lifestyle brand within the next five years. She has big dreams and believes in thinking big.
